How good are Amazon headphones that have Alexa built in?

Missing more than that. Amazon put on your headphones true wireless, echo shoots. With them, the web giant also continues to implement its Alexa personal assistant in our daily lives. The Alexa ecosystem is strengthened

In fact, Echo Buds are nothing new. A first generation of these True Wireless headphones in in-ear format was launched in the United States in 2021. So here we are looking at a “V2”. Available in black or white, Amazon headphones don’t necessarily stand out for the originality of their design. Supplied in a classic charging/storage case, they assert themselves with a certain classic opulence and roundness. Pairing them over Bluetooth 5.0 means going through the Alexa app and adding them as the first or new product in your “Echo” system of Amazon devices.

Touch and voice commands

Through the application, it is possible to try the different tips that are supplied with the headphones (four sizes are offered), modify the assignment of the touch controls, take advantage of a fairly minimalist equalizer (bass, middle, treble) or start the noise. reduction or switch to Surround mode. These last two functions can also be activated by a long press on the touch surface of the headphones. Alternative (this is the opportunity to try!): ask Alexa to take care of it. And it works pretty well! “Alexa, turn on noise reduction!” »

Anyone who is used to coexistence with the Amazon assistant will find a real optimization of the functions of their favorite roommate through the Echo Buds. With it, playing music, creating a reminder, accessing your calendar (Android or iOS), controlling connected objects, making calls with other people equipped with an Echo device is child’s play. Without forgetting the eternal questions that we can ask him… and for which he does not always have the answer. Like: “Alexa, who will be the next President of the Republic?” Pronouncing “Alexa…” in the middle of the street seemed a bit incongruous at first to eventually become almost natural, with spontaneous interactions.

Minimum noise reduction service

For its part, the listening offered by the Echo Buds is quite unique. Amazon’s headphones can be criticized for a predominance of treble and upper mids. However, its beefed-up presence doesn’t obscure a fairly solid bass. In general, the sound is clear, like airy, but structured and well structured. However, fans of sonorous, wobbly basses will go their way.

On the other hand, the quality of the noise reduction is still very relative here. So the Echo Buds only manage to mute some surrounding sounds. A minimal service, in a way… Naturally sharp, the noise of our fingers hitting the keyboard of our computer has not even been reduced… For its part, the Surround mode that allows us to remain attentive to the sounds around us while listening to the music (practice in the middle of the street!) is quite effective. Be careful though: in windy weather, its effects are dire. The noise of the wind is amplified, any attempt to listen becomes dire.

Sport and health in tune

Note that Amazon offers a “Training” feature with its Echo Buds. If you take care of entering your age and weight in the Alexa app settings, the headphones take care of counting steps, calories, average pace, distance traveled… with a rather disconcerting reliability compared to that of our activated Apple Watch in parallel: the observed results were similar. Being waterproof (IPX4 standard), the Echo Buds seem quite adequate for sports use, but with an ultimately adjusted autonomy: 5 hours with noise reduction activated, 6 hours without it.

Selling for €119 (with wired charging box) and €139 (with wire and induction), Amazon’s Echo Buds offer honest service, but with some necessary improvements. A better tonal balance, but above all a noise reduction to be reworked, remain moot points. The assistant Alexa finds here a real reason for being, a new opportunity for her parent to get even closer to us.
