“The father of my child led a double life during my pregnancy”

INTERVIEW – The 29-year-old businesswoman, a candidate for season 6 of the romance show M6, tells us about her convictions, her lifestyle and her marriage to Axel.

“Caroline’s case proved to be a particularly difficult challenge. In six years of experience, we experts have never faced such a profile”. Pascal de Sutter, doctor of psychology from “Married at First Sight”featured the 29-year-old single mom as a very special candidate “to the extraordinary way of life that isolates it from the rest of the world” and in the “complete and unyielding personality”. Running her own janitorial business, Caroline lives in a village in the Hautes-Alpes nestled in the middle of nowhere at 1,600 meters above sea level. This vegan, nature and animal lover – she has 18 dogs – has been raising her 3.5-year-old son on her own since she was born.

I FIGURE YOU. – How did you get the idea to sign up for “Married at First Sight”?
Caroline. –
I followed the program from the beginning and the concept made me dream, the idea of meeting someone compatible, but not imagining one day participating in it. I became a mom (in August 2018, editor’s note), separated from dad during my pregnancy, and for two years, I had other things on my mind besides starting a new relationship. Then the desire to seduce, to meet a man and to share my day to day returned. But I realized that with my personality, my convictions and my way of life in a village of 20 inhabitants, it was going to be very complicated. So I signed up for the “Married at First Sight” casting call to help me find the right person for me.

How is your sentimental past marked by the birth of your son Loup-Gabriel?
He had pretty traditional love stories that usually ended well. I had relationships with men who respected me well. Indeed, there was the father of my son with whom it was very complicated because he lacked self-confidence and, to calm down, he did not find anything better than leading a double life during my pregnancy so that he would really be very much in love with me. To put his mind at ease, if he had to quit, he had created a backup solution. We broke up during my pregnancy because of that, although I didn’t find out the whole truth until two years later. I felt that strange things were happening… It was an absolute war after the birth of my son because he was having a bad time with our breakup, we were fighting for the custody of our son and since the court ruled, everything has calmed down. , we get along really good. He can see Loup-Gabriel whenever he wants and we have become friends.

Her record for “Married at First Sight” would have had a benefit on her deal…
As long as we hated each other, there was no ambiguity. But when we stopped hating each other, he was hoping to rekindle a relationship with me. He hated me again for three and a half days when she found out about my enrollment in the program, but his anger passed and he understood that he had to turn the page with me forever. That’s what she managed to do and we got along very well.

“I spend around 1,500 euros a month to feed all my dogs”

Caroline from “Married at First Sight”

How would you describe your way of life, described as “out of the ordinary” by Pascal de Sutter?
There is one image that I like, it is a photo of two identical apples with the caption: “This is an apple and this is an organic apple”. It is still crazy that the organic apple is not called the apple and the other the chemical apple! My way of life is the same, for me it is the normal way of life! (Laughter.) Single or not, I’m very happy this way. The complexity of my daily life is that I raise a child alone, run my own business and also have to take care of all my dogs. Also, being vegan means you have to cook a lot more. My life is organized according to all this with the help of people who come to my house, au pairs or WWOO fans (aid against room and board, editor’s note).

How much does it cost to take care of 18 dogs?
Economically it is complicated because everything is really my responsibility, from food to veterinary care. Also, my dogs also eat vegan croquettes and they are more expensive than the others. Food alone represents an expense item of about 1,500 euros per month. It’s a real personal choice, at least 50% of my work goes towards keeping my animals. I collect old dogs from shelters, most of them come from Romania, all their vaccinations are up to date.

How should we live to agree with their beliefs?
For me, the correct path, the most logical, the most instinctive and therefore also the most animalistic, is simply to respect our place of life. This is just what surprises me in my observations. An animal will not defecate in its burrow and then end up sleeping on it. I do not ask everyone to live with 18 dogs but to eat and consume correctly, these are fundamentals that go hand in hand with our good health.

As Axel was able to point out about him, one does not live like a hermit in the middle of the mountain.
On the contrary, I have a very dynamic life and my values do not prevent me from enjoying myself. Wherever I go, I eat vegan and drink vegan. I buy all my clothes and accessories second hand. Afterwards, I’m far from perfect, but my options are constantly considered: if I can take the train instead of the plane, I do. When I use my small, gas-efficient car for long trips, I try to take several people with me. I have a lifestyle that does not make me feel guilty. I also want to break this image of the vegan who lives alone in a cave and doesn’t want to bother. I want to impose myself, show that you can be vegan, respect nature and have fun.

“I really believed in the marriage that they were playing a joke on me, that it was a hidden camera”

Caroline from “Married at First Sight”

On his social networks, he openly shows his position against the anti-Covid vaccine and against the health pass. Was there any special health indication to get married in Gibraltar?
No, there were several of us at my wedding that were not vaccinated. Only an antigen or PCR test was requested before leaving France. It did not have to go against my beliefs and if they had asked me to get vaccinated, I would not have accepted it. On the other hand, I have lost count of the number of PCR tests I had to do there, no one wore the mask in Gibraltar anymore.

And that’s why you didn’t want to kiss the boyfriend…
(Laughter.) I couldn’t because of Covid, it was too dangerous!

More seriously, what were your first impressions when you discovered Axel?
Honestly, looking at it, I don’t get it. I tell myself that it is small when it was the only physical criterion that was prohibitive for me. I didn’t fall in love when I exchanged my first glances with him, I didn’t feel anything. I think that all the participants imagine the same thing when they arrive at the wedding, that there is going to be a crush of death at first sight. I really didn’t feel well and he knew how to reassure me, there was a good atmosphere with families and loved ones. When I see the two stuffed animals of his on the floor, I tell myself that we are not in the same delirium with animals. During my portrait session, they asked me the color of the suit that I would not like to see on the groom, I answered the blue of the French flag… It’s not against Axel but I really thought that the wedding was being played on me, it was a hidden camera! (Laughter.)

However, you are giving your history with Axel a chance by accepting this marriage…
I told myself that if I had just seen the 20% incompatibility in a few seconds, that meant I was going to be overwhelmed by the 80% compatibility meeting him and the intellectual harmony was going to be evident. But there again, in our convictions and our values, there is no obvious common ground. I had a very bad banquet experience because I realize that nothing goes right. Axel, as well as his friends and family, was very excited and I felt very bad for not sharing his feelings. On several occasions I told Axel that he didn’t feel anything but that he wanted me to give him the opportunity to take the time to show me who he really is.

What mood are you in at the end of the banquet?
I’m really bad because I really don’t believe in that anymore. I am disappointed because I arrived in Gibraltar full of hope. We finished filming very late, I was very tired and couldn’t wait to be alone. Because at no time that day could I take advantage of moments alone to think about what was happening.
