this amazing and unbelievable action taken by the management for their customers

Of course, the regulars of the discount giant will not be happy! It should be noted, however, that this measure mainly concerns Lidl stores in Lyon, at least for the time being. A curious message addressed to customers

Lidl stores in Lyon cross currently a crisis. And the least we can say is that its consequences will not necessarily please everyone. Simply because some customers might very well change the shopping list.

As a reminder, the situation dates from a few days ago. The most loyal consumers of the brand may only have noticed. A sheet with a letter is published in all the group’s stores in the city of Lyon.

What exactly happened? Could business be in decline? Is there a global shortage? None of this, because the situation is very easy to explain. In reality, these are simply the first shocks of the Russo-Ukrainian war.

To deal with this, Lidl invites its customers to limit their purchases to specific products. Note that this is still not a real shortage, but more of a “rationing” or a “cap” so to speak.

What products are affected?

At the moment, this limit does not refer to the whole food products sold by Lidl. These are mainly bottles of sunflower oil. To avoid a possible shortage, the management of the German company considered it appropriate to assign a purchase limit to its customers.

The medium Actu Lyon confirms that consumers they can only take 4 bottles of 0.75 l if they buy organic sunflower oil. And when it comes to a 1-liter bottle of sunflower oil as well as blends of various oils, including rapeseed, they can’t take more than 3 bottles.

Through a press release from Lidl, Actu Lyon clarifies, however, that this is not an obligation in the strict sense of the term. Rather it would be a recommendation, an invitation. A security measure that aims to limit the impacts of a shortage.

In fact, we must not forget that Russia and Ukraine between them are still responsible for about 75% of the world’s sunflower oil. In the long term, this war can only cause a shortage that will affect Lyon and all of France.

The worst is yet to come?

The war in Ukraine broke out at the end of February 2022. Since then, the media around the world have not stopped talking about it. If the price of fuel and energy shot up in the first weeks that followed, the real impacts on the food sector are pending.

For this reason, Lidl has taken the initiative to limit the phenomenon of overbuying. By doing so, the chain store helps to reduce panic as the products will be evenly distributed. Starts now. In April there is sure to be no shortage, the end-of-year races would be tough if the war continues…
