New York: the thinnest skyscraper in the world has just been inaugurated

Officially completed, the Steinway Tower at 111 West 57th Street in Manhattan is now ready to welcome its first residents. At just 18 meters wide, this luxurious 84-story building reaches 435 meters in height, making it the tallest in the world.

Designed by the New York architecture firm SHoP Architects, this skyscraper was built by JDS Development, Property Markets Group and Spruce Capital Partners. Started in 2013, the construction of this skyscraper inarchitecture extraordinary and daring has just come to an end.

The Steinway Tower is actually an addition to Steinway Hall, a historic building dating back to 1925, which combined the former home of piano manufacturer Steinway and Sons and a concert hall.

To design it, its architects told CNN, they were inspired by the golden age of Manhattan’s skyscrapers and the Art Deco history of New York.

Adorned with terracotta and bronze blocks, the tower’s façade seems to change color and texture depending on the time of day, weather conditions and the angle from which it is viewed.
