If it were accepted that the Lodge would have offspring, the surprise was to see the first prototypes appear. Under the camouflage, it was already certain that this 7-seater would not take the form of a minivan but a kind of raised van with SUV accents.. Enough to feed the first doubts about internal competition with the Dusterthat were reinforced during the revelation of the Jogger in September 2021. With its adventurous air and the modernity inherited from the last Sandero in which it is heavily inspired, the Jogger comes hunting in spite of himself in his brother’s land. At least on paper, because in real life, thee Duster has nothing to worry about and still has some unstoppable arguments.
1. A wider range of engines and transmissions
Since it takes up the architecture of the little Sandero, the Jogger cannot work miracles when it comes to the mechanics available under its hood. Before the hybrid changes things – and the price! – in 2023, customers have no choice but to ECO-G 100 and TCe 110. It is actually the same 1.0 turbo 3-cylinder associated with a 6-speed manual gearbox. In the first case, it offers bi-fuel without lead or LPG and, in the second, it is equipped with direct injection and then offers a small increase in torque and performance.
Opposite, the Duster retains a wider range since in addition to the ECO-G 100, there is the TCe 130 and the TCe 150, two variants of the same 1.3 4-cylinder. Significantly more efficient, this engine can even be paired with a 7-speed EDC dual-clutch automatic transmission. And since the Duster is a true SUV, it also has a 4×4 version. But in this case, more choice, you have to opt for diesel, Dacia having preferred to limit the break in CO2 emissions. On the other hand, you can also opt for diesel in the “traction” version. In any case, the 115 hp 1.5 will not pose any problem for motorists who do not live in large cities and will even assert its low consumption (6.3 l/100 km verified by us).
2. Superior driving pleasure
Even if you’re not a ballerina, the Duster is more enjoyable to drive than the Jogger. In particular, due to a significantly shorter length and wheelbase, which gives it more agility.. Because of its superior suspension travel, it’s also more comfortable on a day-to-day basis without falling into caricature. Soundproofing is also slightly better aboard the Duster, as confirmed by our sound level meter.
On the other hand, It is also worth mentioning the TCe 130 and 150 that offer, beyond the most robust features, incomparable driving pleasure with the 3 cylinders.. As voluntary as it may be, this 1.0 does not have the roundness and torque of the 1.3 turbo, which allows you to face a mountain trip with children and luggage on board without the slightest fear.
3. Untouchable Sympathy Capital
Finally, more subjectively, the Duster enjoys a real capital of sympathy while the Jogger rather conveys the image of a simple wagon despite all Dacia’s efforts to make it more attractive than the Lodgy. It must also be said that the latter differs little from the Sandero, taking over all its facies and, above all, its entire dashboard. Very gratifying at this level of autonomy, however it does not give the feeling of being in an imposing vehicle, while the Duster inspires this robustness and confidence in use.
Offering more varied uses, better road performance and a more attractive face than the Jogger, the Duster finally has little to fear from its new sibling in the range. If you need 7 seats, there is no discussion, you are only interested in the Jogger. But for the vast majority of families with 1, 2 or 3 children, the Duster, certainly more expensive, ensures and even offers some exclusive features such as diesel, all-wheel drive or automatic gearbox.. In this internal duel, the Jogger will take over in 2023 with the arrival of the 140 hp hybrid, before the Duster replaces it in 2024 with the launch of a third generation that is truly renewed and no less ambitious than the current one.
